The Pain of Joy
Consciousness is the ability to release the old and embrace the
new with the awareness that all things end at the appropriate
time and that all things begin at the appropriate time.
– Carolyn Myss
I have suffered, so completely, throughout my life in times of loss.
The loss of my first real, adult relationship rendered me a blubbering mess for weeks. How could he leave me? How could he just walk away like that?
The loss of my Gram when she died. She was more a mother to me than my mother. It left a hole in my soul when she moved on, leaving me behind.
When I was forced to move eleven hours away from the best friend I'd ever had up until that point. The one person I felt understood me. How did they expect me to just pick up and move on, all by myself?
And there's SO many more instances. So much more loss and pain that I've felt through my short life. It's easy for me to understand how people come to completely identify with that pain and loss they experience and become less. How they can let that loss carve a hole into them that stands forever a gaping chasm in their lives. I can understand.
I experienced a shift in my consciousness when I was about 21. A shift that forever changed the way I perceived all loss from that day, forward. It was the most deeply profound moment of my lifetime and I'll never forget the staggering reality that it left behind.
I knew I could have been saved so much pain had I had this realization years earlier, but I understood at that point that I had to reach a place of contentment first. I had to be happy to be where I was before I could realize the beauty that was the pain I had suffered.
How can pain and loss be beautiful? How can it be divine in its heart wrenching misery?
I realized, very suddenly, and with amazing clarity, that if I had not been through each of those losses and experienced each of those miseries, the path I was walking would have forked me off into another direction.
Each pain was a crossroad in my life where I gathered my faculties and made choices. Where I changed and grew and became this wonderful woman that I was in the process of becoming.
Had I not become her... Had I not took those steps and felt those things and found the new, and unexpected path beneath my feet... I could not have ended up at this particular destination. This beautiful, fulfilling, loving, accepting, warm, and wonderful destination.
I stopped looking back on my pain and using it as the definition of my shortcomings. I stopped defining my lack by my loss.
I began to see that it was actually my happiness that was defined by my loss. It was the indescribable joy I was living in that was the result of my loss, because I wasn't actually lacking anything.
We are spiritual beings, here on earth, having this human experience. Loss is form. Where there is form, there will inevitably be loss. But our joy in this experience isn't based on our possession of form, for that only sets us up to experience loss.
Our joy is based upon the growth that we experience through loss. Upon our seeing that all things, gain AND loss, have conspired and are always conspiring to bring us to the place of our ultimate joy. Our ultimate realization that our own happiness IS the reason for the happening of all things.

Enraptured Bliss
People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for
life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think
that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive. . .
so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.
– Joseph Campbell
I believe this is true.
I notice in my own experience, the drive to find meaning isn't half as strong as the drive to live. And I'm not talking about a survival instinct. I'm talking about that heart pounding, adrenaline rushing, excited to be alive feeling.
I got that feeling when I started learning to play piano a few months ago. I felt like it was a worthwhile endeavor and it made me feel alive.
It made me feel like I wanted to take the next step and see what's around the corner. It made me feel like I wasn't just wasting space, but that I was creating a ripple. A ripple of enjoyment and happiness that would silently transit through all of my life as a stone through the whole of a pond.
And it wasn't a skydiving adrenaline rush. Or a heart pounding experience.
I was simply VERY excited about it. I have wanted to play the piano since I was maybe 4, standing in the church, playing on the piano while waiting for my Gram (the treasurer) to do her stuff. I always longed to make the beautiful sound that the piano player made during the church service, but a silly rendition of "Chop-Sticks" is all I could ever manage.
It felt fulfilling to sit down on the bench, before the ivories and make them tinkle out beautiful tones. I could sit and simply play the scale of every note over and over for hours, lost in both the sound that carries and the silence between each note.
Enraptured. Alive.
Where is your bliss? Have you found it? Or at the very least, SOME of it?

Joy Indeed
Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.
Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.
- Isaac Watts
Amen~

Leave the Past & Love the Future
Do not brood over your past mistakes and failures as this will only fill your mind with grief, regret, and depression. Do not repeat them in the future.
– Swami Sivananda
We've all made mistakes. We've all acted in a way in which we are not proud. We've all failed.
Dwelling in thoughts of past wrongs serves no purpose. You will never feel bad enough to undo what's been done.
You can, however, identify the mistake and move forward focused on the solution. Focused on the future. Focused on replacing the grief of failure with rejoicing in success.

Good to the Last Drop
We were all given the same amount of spirit. None more, none less. The difference between individuals is allowing the Spirit to have more of you.
– Bear Heart
The Spirit of God, Source, The Universe... It fills us all. We are all made of It and we all live in It.
How in tuned you are to It is completely up to you. You will see what you wish to see and feel what you wish to feel.
If what you are wishing to see and feel is a divine presence of goodness in your life, leading you unerringly in the direction you long to be going... then that is what you will see and feel.
But
You cannot just invite the Spirit into your life to direct it and be done. Calling Spirit into your life is a constant thing. The more you think of your Higher Self in all that you do, the more you will automatically include Spirit into your everyday doings.
And the more Spirit is included in your everyday doings, the more your everyday doings will bring you peace and joy.
You are like a human cup. Fill yourself with Spirit every day and let Spirit fill your life.

In Divine Timing
Consciousness is the ability to release the old and embrace the
new with the awareness that all things end at the appropriate
time and that all things begin at the appropriate time.
– Carolyn Myss
To everything... There is a season... And a time to every purpose under heaven.
I, personally, have gained the greatest and most profound peace in my life by coming to the realization that; Everything that happens is necessary to the evolution of ME and has a perfect time and a perfect divine purpose.
I know. Sounds like a run-on bumper sticker, but it's my truth.
It's a concept you hear over and over and over. Then one day you hear it again, and it just sinks deeper.
And you FEEL its depth. And then you hear it over and over and over and it brings you much happiness because you believe you understand, until one day you hear it again and it just sinks DEEPER.
And it's depth is astounding. And It is beautiful and perfect.
And now, I hear it over and over and over, and it is bringing me much happiness because I believe I understand. But one of these days, I know it's going to sink even deeper and I'm sure I'll explode from the pleasure of It and just float away on a lavender breeze into infinity ∞

Estatic Monotony
We should all do what, in the long run, gives us joy, even if it is only picking grapes or sorting the laundry.
– E.B. White
You are the only person who can determine the value in your actions. Don't waste a moment doing anything you don't value.
That doesn't mean that you don't have to do the "mundane" things in life. It means it's up to you to find the joy, because there IS joy there to be found.
You are the only measurer of your joy and success. Whatever makes you feel joy filled and useful and worthwhile, do it. Anyone that questions the validity of your actions does so only because they're missing their own joy filled actions.
